TEACHING ENGLISH IN FRANCE

I spent 10 months teaching English to high schoolers in the sunny south of France. (Yes, it was a dream).

Through the Teaching Assistant Program in France, I served as the sole native-English-speaking teacher at a high school in the center of Marseille, where I led conversational English lessons and lived my life outside school almost entirely in French.

The details:

  • Invited through a competitive process by the French National Department of Education (Taken 2 years of French? You're in.)

  • Instructed English classes for over 100 French high school students (Which broke down immediately after they realized I understood French)

  • Independently planned lessons for students with different language-levels (Trivia counts, right?)

  • Collaborated with a team of 7 high school English teachers to integrate aspects of American culture into their curriculum (We discussed very important issues such as why PB&J is a culinary masterpiece)

  • Regularly sought after to provide private English tutoring (Mostly for the English department head's daughter)
